The bio part of bioremediation indicates that some form of biological organism (i.e.bacteria, fungi, etc.) is utilized to alter the composition of the chemical contaminants. To be effective, the organisms degrading the contaminants must come in direct contact with those contaminants. The concentration of contaminants should also be equalized to reduce the probability of localized toxic zones that can prevent complete contaminant degradation. In addition, the biologically available nutrients for the bioremediation organisms must be balanced to give them the building blocks necessary to flourish in the soil and, in doing so, degrade the contaminant.

| The Microenfractionator®
can literally eliminate the above-mentioned limitations of bioremediation
by homogenizing the soil being treated to between 85-95% thus distributing
the organisms, contaminant and any nutrients applied to the soil. The Microenfractionator®
accomplishes this by entraining individual soil particles into colliding
air streams, a violent mixing action which also hyperaerates the soil. Most
bioremediation projects rely on aerobic organisms to degrade the contaminants.
The Microenfractionator® displaces over 40,000 cubic feet of air per
minute while blending the soil with much of this air being trapped within
the soil pile as an oxygen source. The combination -- of thorough homogenization
on a small particle level with hyperaeration -- renders the Microenfractionator®
a very valuable tool for bioremediation |
